Yes! The culinary trend that was started in Berlin has finally arrived: the Hamburg Streetfood Festival premiered in September 2014 and since then there has been no stopping it. Once a month, this event brings together an amazing mix of food trucks, well-established caterers and passionate amateur chefs to offer the fast growing community of food lovers a delicious variety of world cuisine. Ranging from organic pancakes and American burgers to Mexican tortillas and wraps, everything is carefully prepared with fresh and select high quality ingredients.
My favorite vendor is “Curry It Up” – their Indian culinary treats are as colorful as their logo and super tasty. When I tried their vegan samosa in combination with a silky mango lassi it was a flavor explosion! I first discovered them at Marktzeit in Ottensen – another food market where you can try a wealth of delicacies every Saturday – and have been following them since then.
Accompanied by live music and DJs, this popular event aims to go beyond mere entertainment: it wants to create a diverse food culture as a healthy alternative to the fast food scene. And so far it’s been very successful: people from all over town come to celebrate the value and pleasure of sustainably and ethically produced food and drink!
