Vinh Loi is an eldorado for lovers of Asian food and culture. In Hamburg you can find this Asian supermarket twice, one in the city at Klosterwall and one in Wandsbek. No matter which one you enter, you’ll instantly ask yourself if you missed a flight – this IS Asia!
First of all the smell of all those foreign spices and ingredients, then sight of loads of unknown fruits, vegetables and “things” in bags you didn’t even know existed. What the hell am I supposed to do with that? Visiting Vinh Loi is always a huge inspiration to try out new recipes. Afterwards I google for different products and how to handle them – because I will come back here soon!
What I really like at the Wandsbek store is the parking place in front of the building and – very important – that they have a translation for each product name on the shelves. The Wandsbek store is at least twice as big as the city store, and it isn’t as crowded so that you can watch and study all the products without interference.
They also offer a great range of frozen products and fresh vegetables, Asian snacks of all kinds and last but not least cookware and tableware. The prices are unbeatably favorable!
