Alppipuisto is definitely one of my favorite parks in Helsinki. With its hills and a small pond it is like a miniature version of Les buttes Chaumont in Paris (but really – a miniature!). It has also some gazebos and stairs like a small amphitheater. Alppipuisto is right next to the Linnanmäki amusement park, but thanks to the valley-like shape of the park, it seems to be hidden from the city. I always get surprised when I get a glimpse of a train passing by right next to the park, it seems to be so far away from everything. But actually it is in the Alppila-district and easily reachable by trams, buses, on foot or by a bike.
Alppipuisto is always a beautiful place to take a walk, for example, but summertime really brings it alive, naturally. It is a very popular picnic place, and usually when it’s warm there are people drinking beer all night long.
And the best part of Alppipuisto in the summer is that in July, every weekend there is a free mini-festival! The genres go from folk music to psytrance and indie rock, so they’re really worth checking out! During the concerts, the park is full of people and usually there’s also food trucks, so it’s always a nice party. Look their web page and Facebook for the schedule.
I highly recommend enjoying a sunny day in Alppipuisto!
