Sushi places are to be found all over Helsinki by now, but Sumo offers much more! The place is fairly small, so you probably shouldn’t come here with more than four people as it will present a space issue quite quickly. Sumo offers traditional Japanese food at high quality. Their regular Lunch menu includes sushi – of course – which in my eyes is one of the best around. It’s fresh, creative and simply tastes fantastic. You can also choose a vegetarian or meat dish (for example great beef teriyaki – the choices change daily), so also non-sushi lovers will find something that pleasantly surprises them!
What’s especially stunning here though, are the desserts on which the chef likes to experiment a little. They do not always ask for desserts, if they don’t, make sure that you do! From Green Tea Panna Cotta to Wasabi Crème Brûlée – I love how they fusion classic desserts with a bit of Japanese food culture.
Their ambiance is cozy yet clean and modern, which fits the concept of the restaurant perfectly. The prices are a bit higher than in your regular sushi restaurant, but you really get an experience here! I recommend the Lunch formula, which always includes a soup and the main dish – and of course the desserts (those cost additionally, but for a standard price of € 4 definitely worth it!).
