One of my favorite cafes of Helsinki, Bear Park Cafe Kulmakuppila has its roots in the traditional Helsinki kiosk of Karhupuisto. The cafe started as a summer kiosk, and later they opened a year-round cafe, Kulmakahvio, in one corner of the park. The original kiosk is still open every summer and has become somewhat of a center in Karhupuisto gathering all kinds of people together, not only from Kallio but from all over town.
The milieu is charming, with the terrace spread around the kiosk in the shadows of the trees of Karhupuisto. It is a perfect place to spend a hot afternoon watching the beautiful flowers of the park and trams driving by and of course the people of Kallio coming and going and playing pétanque in the park.
Like the Kulmakahvio, the original Bear Park Cafe has a nice selections of quality treats and pastries from small bakeries to have with your coffee. Kulmakahvio is also open during the summers, but on sunny afternoons it’s the kiosk’s turn!
