Eating needs to be compensated somehow and one of my favorite sports is ice hockey. Ice hockey is also the most popular sport in Finland. In the winter time it is a must to go outside to play some pond hockey so to say or ice skating. Playing hockey on an actual pond is not that easy but luckily we have a few great spots in Helsinki where you can go ice skating and play hockey outside. One of the best spots is Brahenkenttä in the hip Kallio neighborhood.
Brahenkenttä is easily accessible by tram and an ice skating trip to Kallio can very well be combined with a visit to the lovely cafes, bars or restaurants in Kallio or neighboring areas. Skates may be rented out from Brahenkenttä. Ice skating is also a good way to meet locals since Brahenkenttä is a very popular spot for ice skating.
I think everyone should try out this typical Finnish outdoors activity. What would be a better way to enjoy the fresh air and have fun? Just remember to dress warm enough if it’s well below zero.
Brahenkenttä ice skating season is on from November 14 until March 12. Opening hours may vary due to extreme weather conditions.
