My Monday evenings are usually reserved for chatting in German with strangers. This is when I join the people at the Café Lingua event organized weekly at Café Mascot. At seven o’clock the whole huge first floor of the place, and some of the upper one as well, gets filled with people chatting in different languages.
Café Lingua is an event for anyone wanting to practice actually speaking a language they have learned before. Every table is marked with a language or two and both native speakers and others gather around to chat and have a nice evening together. The official hours are from 18:00 – 22:00, but many stay until much later.
Café Lingua is open for all, so just get a drink from the bar and take a seat! There are so many tables, that I’m not even sure which languages are represented, but usually there’s a chance to brush up your English, German, French, Spanish and Japanese at least – and Finnish, of course! Native speakers are always warmly welcomed to the tables, so Café Lingua is a great event to meet some locals while traveling.
Like I said, I’ll be at the German table, so come and say hallo!
