Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art is located in the very heart of Helsinki city and it is quite an essential modern building and hard not to miss if you are walking around the city.

When they first built this museum I did hate the whole building and the architecture. I did not visit it in the beginning – but over time I have learn to love this Museum. Today it is one of my favourite museums in Helsinki for several reasons.

During summer time they have one of the best sunny terraces in the city center. The cafeteria is bit expensive – but I still love the space and the light at the cafeteria. The museum shop is one of the best little shops in Helsinki and they have a great book selection.

The museum? I love the space, the architecture and now that I have a kid, it is actually a great place to visit children!

Usually one is not allowed to touch the art in museums – but most the time they have exhibitions where one is allowed to touch and feel installations. Or they have really nice video installations. Some are not suitable for kids, but then we pass those.

Until 27th November 2011 the MUST SEE exhibition is ARS 11. ARS 11 is a major international art event filling Kiasma with artworks, performances, screenings, discussions and workshops.

In winter you may feel overloaded with the darkness in Helsinki. The city offers quite a lot of indoor spots to explore. Tennispalatsi is one of my favourite. Tennispalatsi means Tennis Palace in English. Originally this building was built in 1938 in preparation for the 1940 Summer Olympics held in Helsinki.

It started to operate as a movie theater in February 1999 and it is operated by Finnkino.

Finnkino can be almost called a monopoly when it comes to movie theaters. It operates 15 cinemas in 11 of the largest cities in Finland, with a total of 89 screens. In Helsinki Finnkino has four cinemas and they are called Kinoplatsi, Maxim, Bristol and Tennispalatsi.

At Tennispalatsi you’lll find a total of 14 movie halls – each hall having the same comfy chairs and pleasant visibility to the screen.

But… Tennispalatsi 1 has the largest movie screen in Scandinavia! The size of this giant screen is 184,8 square meters!!! It’s just an amazing feeling to watch movies on this gigantic screen. Now they’re even showing 3D movies in Tennispalatsi 1.

So there are many reasons to visit this movie palace. Book a ticket to the movie they are showing in Tennispalatsi 1. Check out the awesome functionalist building. Perhaps before or after the movies visit the Helsinki Art Museum Tennis Palace located in the same building.
