After the snowy winter this spot becomes essential to visit!
Blue-green oasis in the city. The Southern part of Helsinki city is located in the peninsula so the whole Helsinki is surrounded by several islands – big and small.
Tervasaari is one of the smallest islands thus still a true blue-green oasis in the middle of the city. You do not need to take a ferry to get there. I consider this very convenient since for most of the other beautiful Helsinki islands you need to take a ferry.
You can reach Tervasaari by walking. The road taking there is a parking space at the same time, and when looking from the mainland the island is kind of hiding behind the cars. So you need to know what you are looking for.
Tervasaari is my personal hiding place, the secret jewel of Helsinki. Even it is quite small and you will be able to walk around it in 20 minutes, there is still lot to discover to make it a half day or even full day trip if the weather is good.
There is a lovely restaurant called Savu located in the middle of the island. Its old storehouse, built in 1805 for storing tar barrels and a sight itself. You will also find a small beach, playground, summer theater, romantic bridge, green hills, blue lagoon and traditional Finnish carpet-washing jetties! What else do you need for a perfect spring oasis?
