Whenever I’m feeling too lazy to cook, I stop by Fafa’s Kallio on my way home. This fast food joint claims to offer the best falafel in the whole country and frankly, I believe them! Two years in a row (2013, 2014), the readers of City magazine voted Fafa’s restaurants the best fast food in Helsinki. The food is always fresh and tasty. My choice is usually between the Pesto & Goat Cheese Falafel or the Feta & Fried Eggplant one. The huge portions have never left anyone I know hungry – on the contrary. Luckily, there are also nice craft soft drinks to help you gulp down the last bits.
From outside Fafa’s Kallio looks somewhat like a shady construction barrack, but inside it’s as hipster as the Kallio-Sörnäinen district gets. The relaxed crew is always friendly and ready to crack a joke or two with you.
Fafa’s is a great choice for hungry vegetarians. There’s kebab and chicken available as well, but still I’d urge any meat eaters too, to choose the juicy and spiced up falafel.
Fafa’s Kallio is situated a couple of minutes walk from the Sörnäinen metro station towards Suvilahti. Nowadays you can find Fafa’s restaurants with “positive vibration, good ingredients and cooking with love” all over the city. Two in the city center are Fafa’s Iso Roba (Iso Roobertinkatu 2) and Fafa’s Kamppi (Pohjoinen Rautatiekatu 21).
