Hakaniemen Kauppahalli is a market hall, clear and simple, and I think that if you’re even a bit of a foodie, you should always visit the market hall wherever you go. That’s where you see what the locals are buying, what delicacies are being sold and what gives the country its flavour.
Are you going to buy some of the fresh produce available? Perhaps not, if you’re just visiting. But that doesn’t matter, because you can enjoy the atmosphere and just watch as the food items change owners and people leave with bags of good and fresh things.
And to be completely honest, I’m not doing all of my shopping here for food. I don’t think anyone really buys everything from there. But it’s the place where you can go shopping when you want to do something special and don’t want to get the regular stuff from the supermarket.
As a visitor, I like going to a food and market hall like this to get a feel of the food. Like most of the halls, the Hakaniemi one also has nice cafes inside and you can stop by for a coffee and some delicious bakings and treats that are local, natural and most likely totally self-made. Nothing can really beat that.
