One of the things that made me the most excited to move to the Sörnäinen district was the Kattilahallin Kirppis flea market organized basically next door! The event is held every now and then in a mighty old steam power plant and it’s always buzzing with life.
I’ve always loved flea markets and the thrill of the treasure hunt, and I’m not the only one! The Kattilahalli flea market is very popular, so it’s good to bundle up with warm clothes because as you can see in the photo you might have to queue for some time to get in.
Kattilahallin kirppis is, so to speak, a traditional flea market where everyone sells their own old clothes and things. One or two handicraft sellers have also managed to squeeze in between the others, but they are a rare minority. If you want to make a run for the best items, then I suggest arriving right before the flea market opens. If you’re more into getting a bargain, come between 14:00 – 15:00 when some of the 150 sellers are already starting to slowly pack their things and will gladly come down with the price.
Note that the Kattilahalli flea market is not organized every Sunday so make sure to check the dates on Facebook first!
