Kruunuvuori is a region east of Helsinki, not very far from Herttoniemi metro station. It is basically a forest with abandoned wooden villas that give it a kind of creepy, yet very interesting vibe. Some say that the ground wasn’t good enough for the houses to be stable and hence were abandoned and left to rot – but those are only rumors. It has also been said that there will be a “proper” recreational and residential area built there soon, so you’d better hurry if you wanna see the place! Unfortunately stupid people have burnt down some of the houses lately, so better be quick, really.
It is a great spot for a day-trip, if it’s one of those bright sunny days when the colors of the trees seem to glow and the blue sky seems endless. Take your swimming gear for a dip in the sea with amazing views of the city in the summers, but also in winter when the forest is covered in snow it’s absolutely worth the short hike.
The best way to get there is by metro and bus, it is quite close to the centre though and definitely worth a trip! Take the metro from the centre (eg. Railwaystation) to Herttoniemi and Bus 88X onwards to “Kaitalahti 2”. It’s just a couple of minutes walk from there!
