One can probably find a Mexican restaurant anywhere in the world. In Helsinki there’s also at least a dozen of them around the city. But some Mexican restaurants are more Mexican than others. In this case, it’s that the people behind the desk and in the kitchen are a bit more passionate about what they are doing. Recently Patrona has changed owners, let’s see how they meet the challenge.
Patrona has a nice minimalistic flavor on the decor but lots of it hidden in the menu. I also liked the selection of over 35 different tequilas. Table reservation is recommended, since the place is not a huge one and has gained a very good reputation. Make one for weekends 1-2 weeks and for weekdays 1-3 days ahead. And as you might expect, this is not a fast food restaurant.
On my first visit we ordered a nice combination of starters, but the most memorable portion was a main course with minced meat and chocolate sauce (that unfortunately wasn’t on the menu last time). It’s definitely one of those that you either love or not. So to get the best combination to suit your palate, it’s a good idea to ask recommendations and details from the staff.
