About me
I am a freelance journalist and photographer based in Helsinki. I write about travel, fashion and culture for the biggest Newspaper in Finland and for women’s and travel magazines. I have called Helsinki my hometown for more than a decade now. I have also lived in a massive cities in Australia and a teeny tiny village in Dominican Republic before.
I use to work on a sailing boat as a dive master and a host. That’s the best job I have ever had! I love traveling, photographing, writing, sailing and horse riding. I have traveled to more than 40 countries. Varanasi in India has been the most mind-blowing destination so far. I got my first camera when I was 10 years old. I took 30 photos of horses the next day. I have been addicted to photographing ever since.
Why do I love Helsinki?
I love my city, because it is unique, beautiful and a bit bizarre. We Finns love extremes. In winter we have sunlight only for 6 hours in a day. In summer the sun rises at 3 am and sets around 10 pm in Helsinki. We take our sunglasses when we go to out at night, so that we don’t get blinded by the sunshine when we crawl back home at 4 am.
I guess surviving all this and having all the time to think in the darkness make us Finnish creative and unique people hence we have interesting art-life and lots of small shops selling Finnish design. I live in the Design District, in the city central and absolutely love it.
The center of Helsinki is some kind of mixture of Slavic and Scandinavian style. I like the size of Helsinki: you can walk or tram to everywhere in the city easily, but at the same time it is big enough to have good amount of museums, parks, harbors, boutiques, cafes and nightclubs. There is always something to do in Helsinki!
