Now that the summer has begun, I’m going through my favorite places to spend the summer days, and Vallilan kalliot is probably my all-time favorite. It is a small, rocky, sunny hill in the middle of old Vallila. I lived in Vallila for several years, so the hill became some kind of a legend and the first time on the hill in the spring marks the beginning of summer (no matter how cold it might be, usually we start the season in April…).
Vallilan kalliot is very popular place among the locals during sunny days, because the sun shines on the hill a lot later than in most parks. Also the milieu is charming: the hill is in the middle of the traditional, beautiful little wooden houses of Vallila, in the neighborhood of Puu-Vallila.
The location makes Vallilan kalliot a perfect place to spend the long summer days and evenings. Even if it seems to be far away from everything and a bit hidden, surrounded by the small wooden houses, it is actually quite nicely situated. It is easy to reach by bus or tram or even by walking or by bike, and there are several grocery stores nearby to get your refreshments from. There’s also quite a few bars in walking distance to continue the night at.
And a pro-tip: Vallilan kalliot is a really nice place for spotting the shooting stars in August!
