Vanha Kirkkopuisto park, also known as Ruttopuisto, is like a gateway between the city center and hip Punavuori neighborhood. Many people tend to walk through the park daily, including me. I think the best thing about the park is that it connects people, especially as a venue for different events. The most popular event usually taking place in Vanha Kirkkopuisto is Restaurant Day which is a feast of food founded in Finland. Vanha Kirkkopuisto is the best place to discover the different eats on Restaurant Day and locals know this as well.
Vanha Kirkkopuisto is also a nice place for a picnic in the summer time. The location is very central, within few minutes from Mannerheimintie or Aleksanterinkatu streets. As the name Vanha Kirkkopuisto implies, there is also a church, kirkko in Finnish, which somehow often goes unnoticed even by the locals. Vanhakirkko church is from the year 1826 and is worth a visit as well.
