I love Helsinki because it provides many unique and truly magical wildlife conservation areas inside of the city.
Vanhankaupunginlahti (Vanhankaupunginselkä) is one of my favourite nature spots in town and in Finland. It’s located near the city center and it takes just 15 minutes by bus from the city center and you are in the middle of a magical and totally different kind of Helsinki.
When you get out of the bus you pass the beautiful and historical area Vanhankaupunginkoski Rapids, which is also a great spot to visit.
Vanhankaupunkinlahti is a bay area which together with parts of adjoining Viikki district constitute a natural conservation zone. The area is listed in Ramsar Convention on Wetlands of International Importance, and it is part of European Union’s Natura 2000 program and it is also listed as BirdLife International’s Important Bird Area.
Many tourists and Finnish people go there to watch birds – I’m not a bird watcher, so what do I do there and why do I love this place so much?
Walk a kilometer along duckboards (for one way), listen the tranquility side of my city. When walking I can hear the duckboards clattering and I can see peaceful nature surrounding me. When stopping I can hear my own heart beating and I can see the city center at the horizon. About half way I stop to eat my sandwich and drink my cooling drink. What is there at the end of the duckboards? I’ll let you figure out that one your self.

Hi Jun Chyi,
Yes this is very lovely are. From the city center near the rail way station is buss terminal. Or both sides of the railway station there is buss terminal. You need to go to the one called Rautatientori. From there you take buss number 71 which goes during the week approx every 10-15 minutes. Stop you need to get off is called: Vanhankaupungintie 1 or the next one called Katariina Saksilaisen katu 1.
Please find the Helsinki city transpotation route planner link where you can see the map and instructions and by changing the timetable you get the correct time and date suitable for you.
Hope this was usefull information and you find your way there.
