Think of a secluded street. Quiet, only for pedestrians, away from the hustle of the city but yet still in the heart of the historical peninsula. A picturesque row of old wooden houses which lean against the outer wall of Topkapı Palace. The street is called Soğuk Çeşme Sokak meaning the Street of Cold Fountain. This street was restored by the late Çelik Gülersoy who was passionate about Istanbul. He also opened a library devoted to Istanbul.
This library is a fabulous treasure for Istanbul lovers. It’s free to visit and to examine books under a lovely atmosphere just behind St. Sophia. Some of the books are very rare and can only be seen in this library. Away from the crowds you can dive into the depths of the history and culture of Istanbul.
