Although Turkey is famous for a unique ice cream called Maraş (a city in the southeastern part of the country), it does not offer different flavors. In the Taksim area, on Istiklal avenue, plenty of cafes offer ice cream but one is different from the others with its taste and varieties.
Cremeria Milano is an Italian brand that has sold ice cream, or what Italians call gelato, for a few years now. “I came Istanbul as a tourist and decided to open a branch on Istiklal street when I realized the crowds passing by this street” says the owner in an interview, adding that they use traditional methods and fresh fruits of the season for production.
They serve more than 20 flavors including special flavors like gum (mastic), tiramisu, coffee, yogurt whereas I like the pistachio and strawberry the most. It is always difficult to choose though, because they are all delicious. It is a tiny shop, ideal for take away but you can also enjoy your ice cream at the tiny bar inside.
