Shopping for traditional handicrafts or souvenirs is great fun. It’s the same for Istanbul visitors, I’m sure you’re willing to bring home a carpet or a traditional small lamp once you visit shops around old town. After visiting a few shops, most people are confused by all the similar items and different prices. Is it genuine? Am I paying the right price? If you’re not an expert, it’s hard to answer these questions, but there’s a way!
Traditional handicraft stores are a project of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism to support traditional handicraft designers and producers. All pieces are bought directly from handicraft artists all around Turkey and sold at affordable prices in these shops. These large stores offers souvenirs, carpets, jewellery, books, CDs etc. on 2 floors and there’s something for all tastes.
