When I’m abroad, I always love to stumble upon artisan stationery shops: in a world where more and more things are going digital, I like to see that there are still people who value paper. Shops that sell lots of different notebooks, notepads and postcards enchant me with their tranquility and neatness. I felt that Istanbul was missing a good stationery shop where you could browse for a long time and remember to celebrate the goodness of paper.
Kağıthane is just what I was looking for, a place to find unexpected and witty items, notebooks made of recycled paper, posters and bookmarks. As its website claims, you may not need any of the things that are sold at Kağıthane, but once you walk in, there’s no doubt that you’ll want to buy everything.
Attention impulse-buyers, the shop also sells a large collection of cleverly designed Istanbul-themed items. From t-shirts to totebags, simit-printed coasters to old school notebooks; Kağıthane satisfies the needs of travelers and Istanbul loving locals alike. I especially loved the poster with Istanbul’s fish species and street sign printed placemats.
I visited Kağıthane’s shop in Karaköy, but if you’re around the other locations, they also have shops in Nişantaşı and Galata. The shop achieves to satisfy those who love stationery shopping and those who want to fill their luggage with clever souvenirs.
