Sometimes it can be very difficult to find a good cup of Turkish coffee even in Istanbul. Of course there are few exceptions like Mandabatmaz. Knowing what makes Turkish coffee is the thick foam covering demitasse, the cafe is named “Mandabatmaz” which literally means “so thick even a water buffalo wouldn’t sink in it”.
It’s more “a hole in the wall” than a cafe, which is located on a narrow street where customers sit on one of the small stools that line the narrow street. Drinking Turkish coffee here is a tradition for locals including me especially after lunch or dinner. Mandabatmaz uses custom roasted coffee beans which is not sold anywhere else to ensure the perfect brew. Today, considering that even famous coffee shop chains serve Turkish coffee from coffee makers, Mandabatmaz is one of few places to enjoy the genuine Turkish coffee taste.
