Walking down on Istiklal street, you will easily notice small kiosk windows covered with unpacked chocolates. Maybe it’s a bit weird compared to today’s fancy chocolate packages but don’t you think it’s not the package but the taste which makes the chocolate?
This special chocolate is produced by a family firm called Zambo since 1950 but it’s widely known as “Beyoğlu chocolate” because it’s sold by small kiosks on Istiklal street only. It’s been said that Zambo has a secret, unchanged formula since 1950. The African woman logo refers to cacao imported from Africa.
The main reason for the display is you don’t have to buy a whole tablet as you can buy it in pieces (as many as you want). Although there are a few different types available, my favorite one is hazelnut with milk. Enjoy a piece while strolling down Istiklal and don’t forget this chocolate is not good for take away and should be consumed as quickly as possible before it melts!
