Kyiv’s Podil district is filled with bars, pubs and restaurants of all kinds and shapes. Most of them are located on two main streets, but not my favorite – Amigos Bar. Settled in a spacious basement on the corner of Khoryva and Pochayninska, this venue also has a cozy summer terrace under a shady tree.
The name speaks for itself – Amigos bar is owned and operated by two friends, a bartender and an event manager. The guys are always there, greeting and serving their guests, creating a very private and cozy atmosphere.
There is a humongous variety of homemade spirits, like buckwheat bourbon or raspberry gin, for a very decent price. The food menu is a general list of bar snacks and grilled meats – pretty short, but every item is worth trying.
The crowd is mostly 25+ creative people, friendly and hip. Entertainment is various – DJ sets, live music jams, stand up comedy evenings. Every once in a while a local Balkan-gypsy band stops by for a crazy musical debauchery.
Sometimes on a week night the place is occupied by a local Stand Up comedy community.
