This place is really cool not only because most of its merchandise comes from Colombia, but everything is handmade AND many of the products are made solely from natural materials.
This was the first place I’ve encountered that uses various types of beans (including coffee beans), dried fruit, nuts and seeds in such a unique way. The biggest emphasis is placed on the Tagua nut which is only found in the South American rain forests; it is sometimes called vegetable ivory because of its very close resemblance to the ivory we’re all familiar with. All it takes is some polishing and the deep brown nut becomes white as snow. Then, it is either dyed, and usually painted, or left in its natural form which is equally stunning. The dried fruits used in the jewellery have a subtle, fresh scent which should cause a pleasant surprise for those who come a little closer.
If you’re shopping for someone who already has everything, Galeria Aruaco can really make things easier for you.
