Big news! Today Spotted by Locals and our development partner d-Media announced and launched one of the first multi-national augmented reality applications for travelers in the world!
City travelers could already check all of Spotted by Locals’ 3000 tips by locals in 22 cities on their mobile phones, and let their mobile guide them towards these spots, with the custom-built cityblogs we launched three months ago.
The augmented reality feature, built on the Layar platform, adds the feature for visitors to point their camera-phone at a street, and see all Spotted by Locals tips around through the lens of their mobile phone. Pointing a camera-phone at a bar, restaurant or other type of spot, displays more information about it on the screen.
In the following presentation you can see how the application works:
The best way to see it though, is in (augmented) real life! If you have an iPhone or Android phone, get the Layar application and try it! Be careful for roaming costs when abroad though…
The application was developed by php and Wordpress (and now Layar!) heroes d-Media from Breda!
