If you think you can’t have a good and affordable meal on a Lisbon terrace with a fantastic view over the city, you are wrong.
Around a corner, in a little alley near Chiado, there is still a well kept secret spot where you can have a homemade meal, at inviting prices with a breathtaking view over the Tagus. To be honest, I was always reluctant to let the world know about this spot, but I couldn’t help sharing this little secret and letting you enjoy a good lunch in a setting that pretty much defines what Lisbon is all about.
Once you go up the stairs of this former canteen for nuns (hence the name), food may become just an afterthought – and I confess it is not the main reason to come here, but that doesn’t mean you won’t enjoy it.
You usually have three mains to choose from (besides the usual sandwiches and snacks) that make up a menu with a soup or dessert and drink. It’s canteen style, making it a quick option for lunch if you are in the neighbourhood.
They only serve lunch. And do try to come before 13:00 as it gets pretty crowded after that and, needless to say, you should try your luck and go for a seat outside.
