If back in 2011 I was asked about Padel, I wouldn’t even have known what to say. Clube de Padel changed the game in Lisbon and brought fame to a sport that was virtually non existent in the city about two years ago.
So, first things first: what is exactly Padel? It is a sport played in pairs (necessarily masculine or feminine pairs), with special racquets and balls. The first thing that comes to mind is tennis, and it’s easy to see the resemblance. However, while a lot of the rules of tennis apply, Padel has some specific ones. It is played on a smaller court, surrounded by glass walls.
Clube de Padel is right under the 25 de Abril Bridge, and it was the first Padel club to open its doors and to hold classes so that everyone could know a bit more about the sport. I believe it is fun to play, and super easy to learn. And I guess that which motivated me, also motivated a huge group of Lisboners to get together in this club to learn a bit more and to play. Sports tournaments by the river, who doesn’t like that?
This sport is now hugely popular over the city …and you’re more than welcome to join in on the fun!
