If you come to Lisbon you should go to Castelo de S. Jorge, that is at the top of the hill. You can go there by taxi or tuck-tuck, but if you can, go by foot and be surprised by the way of life of the traditional “Bairros”, such as Alfama, Mouraria or Castelo.
‘O Eurico’ is precisely one of those surprises that you can find along the way. The place is small and simple, it could be the kitchen of any humble Portuguese house. Everything’s basic here: the tables & chairs, the menu… but the food is delicious.
But when you enter ‘Eurico’ your question will probably be: “Is this a restaurant or a grocery store?” Well, it is both! It’s a very familiar restaurant owned by Mr. Eurico and his wife (that is the main cook) with a menu in Portuguese written on a blackboard and a very friendly service.
You will find lots of local people getting lunch/dinner and some tourists, and you can mostly eat fish and seafood, but they also have meat and some really nice fried potatoes and salads! Any portions of the plate are enormous and you will be completely satisfied with your meal. If you want, you can take away the leftovers.
I would recommend ‘O Eurico’ for all the above and because the quality/price ratio is very favourable. Plus, it’s definitely charming. As you are sitting outside on the square, prepare to fall in love with the place.
