Pollux is a store that sells all that you might need for your home. It occupies a 9 floor building downtown and was founded in 1936. I like to think of it as an old aunt of IKEA.
I find myself going there from time to time to check for new and unique objects to give as presents, or for my home. It’s one of those places where you know you’ll find what you need. Although you might already find it interesting to visit, this is not the reason I’m mentioning it.
To find the “secret” spot hidden in this warehouse one must climb all the way to the 9th floor. Well, not actually climb; take the elevator to the 8th floor and then the stairs to the 9th. On this floor there’s a cafeteria and an amazing terrace, unseen from the street and unlikely to be found in a place like this.
I like to think of it as a viewpoint with benefits. It benefits from the view of Lisbon’s rooftops, the geometric streets of Marques de Pombal’s downtown and the Santa Justa’s elevator.
Sunny almost all day and sheltered from wind and rain that will come in the next few months, it’s the perfect place for a quiet coffee and a book. Or a nice chat with a friend.
The terrace is being renovated and is closed at the moment; will re-open soon.
