I love this garden in Lisbon. Unlike the other green haven (check the Jardim Calouste Gulbenkian article) this garden has been landscaped in a far more open way and also tends to be busier. The paths are wider and there is a feeling that not only are you surrounded by nature in the trees but that you also have the sky stretching way above you.
There is a café here on the edge of a pond with some ducks in it, and the park is usually a hive of activity with families enjoying the outdoor space and sun, people walking dogs and small groups of elderly Portuguese men playing cards at the tables.
This is also a good location to celebrate summer birthdays with a picnic on the grass. There is plenty of space to choose from and it is possible to bring your picnic blankets, hampers and celebratory drinks and set yourself up for an afternoon or evening of lazing around in the sun enjoying the atmosphere of the garden with friends.
