Writing about Kinodvor is almost like writing my own CV. I used to work there as a waiter (well, not for a long time, but we have a saying in Slovene: short but sweet) and it kind of still feels like home.
We can translate the name (Kinodvor Mestni kino) as Kinodvor City Cinema, but we might as well call it Community Cinema, thanks to its rich programme. I love how they take good care with programmes for older people, children, students, mommies with strollers etc. and how they move the cinema outside (to the courtyard of the cinema building as well as to the courtyard of the castle) every summer.
Even if you’re not in the mood for a movie you should still stop by here, at least for a morning coffee (all coffees till noon for € 1), to read a newspaper or to check the cinema store where you can buy one of the best souvenirs from Ljubljana: films Vesna and Ne čakaj na maj (check the Youtube video), as well as other movies and books related to the topic.
I must say that it’s been a pleasure and honour to work there. It doesn’t feel like losing a student job but a love affair. An affair to remember.
