Burek is food, a very good one. Fast food actually, fat and salty and totally unhealthy but it feels like sent from above when you need some energy refill in the middle of the night…or in the early morning before you head towards your bed. Nobel is a burek place in city centre and it is usually the last stop before going home after heavy night of partying. It is quite generally known that burek together with yogurt kills (or at least reduces) hangover the next day, that is why it is so popular. In my opinion it beats kebab and hamburger big time, and because of its “balkan” roots, it feels more authentic as well. My advice is to stick with the traditional meat or cheese burek and please forget about diet because you will miss all the joy. You will find Nobel by following Miklosiceva street from Preseren square towards Central station; when you are stopped by a big kitschy green yellow sign and (especially during night hours) a bunch of people, you will know you’re there. Since I dont know when I was frequent guest in Nobel burek place. Yesterday I decided to go there after quite a long time. My regular choose was allways meat burek (mesni burek)but yesterday (Jul.30th 2011) was a total disaster. Far too much salt in it and plenty of minced carrots were mixed between the meat. I was glad, that the local pigeons came arround and helped me finish that crab.
whenever people use term “the best” is that always a matter of subjective view. Nobel burek for me is “the best” because of its central location and it is burek place where we always go with my friends after party, so it is connected with good memories and crazynights…
which means that the ambient and the moment of the night + company of friends make this burek “the best”.
Places you listed have good burek as well, but they are more appropriate for daytime visit (especially Bežigrad tržnica, that closes during the night), since they are located out of the city center.
that is no way best burek in town, bežigrajska tržnica, šiška next to LPP, moste tržnica, some bakerys… But i does feel good at 5 in the morning
