I stopped counting how many times I was fantasizing with a friend to rent a small warehouse and collect old stuff from trash, renovate and sell them. Well, in the fall of 2013 we were beaten to the punch by CPU (Centre of renewable use), but honestly we didn’t mind at all. All we feel is excitement that a place like this opened in Ljubljana.
As you can see in some of my older articles (Smetumet, Oblačilnica dela and Gostilna dela), I’m a huge fan of small but significant projects, which are based on principles of social enterprising and/or sustainability. CPU is yet another one combining both of them. The project in Ljubljana is a result of a cooperation between CPU platform (with similar centers in other parts of Slovenia) and public waste disposal company SNAGA and is doing exactly what we were fantasizing about, collecting old “garbage” with the awareness that it’s still useful and also beautiful.
The place gives me the same pleasure as searching for old treasures in the attic does (as does Moje tvoje) and you can find basically anything (books, records, clothes, furniture, džezvas, board games, coffee mugs…) for symbolic prices. It’s a great tip for some original Ljubljana souvenirs, since there are many things from good old Yugoslavia.
Last but not least, especially for people living in Ljubljana, you can also donate your old stuff. Please do that, because even though it’s old, it’s still useful for someone.
