A boat cruise on the river Ljubljanica is a unique experience. Many boat operators provide panoramic boat tours from the water perspective but one of them is special to me. Handmade wooden boat Barka Ljubljanica designed, constructed and built by Anže Logar.
This is my favorite journey down the river. The boat ride lasts 45 minutes. From aboard I usually enjoy the view of Ljubljana Castle, old town, get a magnificent view of the Cobblers’ Bridge, Franciscan church, Tromostovje or the Triple Bridge, Butchers’ Bridge (check the Love locks Butcher’s Bridge article) and famous Dragon Bridge, as well as charming baroque houses. A hint – Ljubljana becomes magical from the water surface in the evening when the sun goes down and lights are turned on. Although I am a local, I like to escape from the streets of Ljubljana and feel like a visitor from time to time. I also like to take my friends from abroad who visit me in my hometown on a ride and so far they’ve all liked it a lot.
I once saw a couple on a romantic ride. I was later told the ride ended up with engagement! Captain of the boat is Matej Trtnik who welcomes foreigners and locals on board at the start of a journey with loud HELLO and rings with a bell. If you visit Ljubljana in Winter, you will be offered a Slovenian tea or a mulled wine on board – those are the Little Things That Count, right?
