Pizzeria Šestinka is located on the same street as supreme court of Slovenia, that is why a lot of lawyers come here to grab a slice of pizza. It is also very popular among students. It’s name means one sixth of the pizza, because the slices are cut in such manner. I like the hut because it is small and cozy, they play great music and pizzas are really good. On summer days I eat the meal in Miklošičev park, rather than inside.

Instead of just a slice of pizza you can order a menu with salad, fruit or dessert, juice drink and slice and a half pizza. They also offer lunches with soup and main dish instead of pizza. If there is a bigger crowd of hungry people, they can order 5 slices, and get the 6th piece gratis. Prices are lower than similar huts in the very center.

BUREK! If you came to Ljubljana and you haven’t tried it yet it is a shame. This delightful pie filled with cottage chesse or meat or pizza filling can really make your day or night a special one. It is best when returning from a party drunk or starting a fresh day and you need a good and strong snack. There are lots of Burek stores in Ljubljana. You can get one in almost every bakery, but nothing can compare with Olimpija burek and its almost 30 year old tradition of making it.

There is a saying that everyone of us has its own special place to buy it, but I am sure if you ask the locals they will prove that this is THE best! The store is situated in the heart of Ljubljana, just a few steps from main Slovenska road with all major bus connections and only 5 minutes from the central bus and train station.

Just a hint. If you wanna enjoy more, don’t forget to drink yoghurt with it. The best choice you can make .

We all know that after drinking few beers it would be really nice to grab a snack or burger or something similar. But normally when we get drunk, we wait till we get home and then satisfy our needs. Well this ought to change.

Pub Pod Skalco is certainly the best place to watch a game of football, baseball and other sports with a group of friends around a table and when you get hungry just walk outside to the fast-food stand and get yourself a hamburger, cheeseburger, hot dog or other snack. Fastfood is not the only thing, you can drink; different beers, scotches and cocktails are also offered.

Besides that what I like the most is that it is so close to the concert hall Križanke, where often renowned foreign music stars perform, so after a concert you can visit the pub and feel the vibe of a true after-party.

Two weeks ago a new bar opened, whose location instantly drew my attention. It is located in Livada by the Ljubljanica River. Livada is a short walk from the center, but believe me, it is worth it. Especially now, when spring is coming, you can catch the afternoon sun on their terrace.

The name of the bar is Alter, which is trying to suggest that it is different. Maybe they are referring to their selection of music or uniquely decoration, but what I noticed to be the biggest difference is their beer offer. I have never been to a bar in Slovenia that wouldn’t serve Union or Laško beer, the two main beers here. Bar Alter doesn’t have them on the menu. Instead they offer two kinds (ale & stout) of my favorite Slovene beer, HumanFish Beer and a really good Czech beer, Bernard. Each day they offer two kinds of homemade sandwiches, and you can check their daily offer on their FB page.

One can not forget that the bar only opened recently so there are still some little things to be done like acquiring some comfortable relaxing chairs for the garden but nevertheless, the place has a very nice energy and a beautiful view.

I am well aware of the fact that you can find an Irish pub literally everywhere on this planet, but the true beer lovers know that an Irish pub in all those places is always a mixture. A mixture of Irishness and local atmosphere.

For all the beer lovers it is really important to know that they offer more than 80 different beers and it is also home to a special Slovenian beer called Human Fish Beer. Not to forget whiskeys are their specialty also. I was told they have more than 30 different kinds. With good drinks (and with that humongous beer selection there always is) I like to hear nice music, which they have live almost every Thursday from September to May.

This bar is also a good option if you are a sport lover, since they have a big screen TV for watching sports, like rugby, football, ice hockey, cricket and many more. Their lovely slogan is: There are no strangers here, only friends who haven’t met!
