Eat 17 – Sexy secluded bistro

Chatsworth Road in Homerton is another of those London streets that has experienced a resurgence over the last couple of years. As Londoners are forced to move further out of the city due to rising rent costs, new businesses like Eat 17 follow them.

Eat 17 opened in Walthamstow seven years ago, but this Homerton branch is my favourite. Amongst convenience stores and fried chicken shops, this old cinema has been transformed into a super fancy restaurant without a whopping price tag. Downstairs you can sample their delicious menu at a counter, curiously situated at the front of a Spar supermarket that sells all sorts of lovely goods.

The highlight, though, is upstairs in Eat 17’s decadent dining room. Velvet seating, posh lamps and marble tables make up the decor and the menu is bursting with options. Naturally I go for the cheeseburger with slabs of green chilli and aioli, but the menu extends to plenty of Anglo-French options, including beef, pork belly, duck and vegetarian dishes. There are plenty of beers and wines to wash your meal down with, and the rhubarb crumble is heaven sent.

The service is wonderful and the atmosphere is unpretentious – if you’re in the area it’s easily one of the nicest places to spend an evening.
