Frank’s Cafe – Pop-up rooftop bar

Hanging around in a multi-storey car park in South London with a beer and some chicken wings may not sound like a particularly appealing proposition, but Frank’s Café in Peckham manages to transform exactly that into something rather enjoyable.

Located on the tenth and top floor of a multi-storey car park in Peckham, Frank’s is a rooftop bar and café that pops-up each summer to entertain and inspire locals and in-the-know tourists.

The first five floors of the car park do little to dispel the stereotypical image of such places: grey, unwelcoming and smelly. However, once you reach the sixth floor everything starts to make a little more sense. The parking spaces are no longer filled with row upon row of dirty red Ford Focuses and stained silver Volkswagen Polos; rather they play host to a range of sparsely positioned art exhibits and large-scale sculptures.

Fast-forward 15 minutes – yes the queues are quite long – and you will be in a position to really appreciate the magic of Frank’s Café. By this point you should be sitting on a wooden picnic table with an ice-cold pint of beer, or a sharp Negroni (the house cocktail), looking out over the city with goose pimples rippling down your spine.

Frank’s is only open during the summer so make the most of it while you can.
