This fantastic all-you-can eat buffet is tucked away on Chapel Market, a ten-minute walk from Angel tube station and a stone’s throw from the more expensive restaurants of Upper Street. At an astonishingly low £6.50 for central London, you can grab a plate and start piling it high with delicious vegetarian Indian food. With around four or five curries, three types of rice, onion bhajis and many different salads, there is plenty to choose from. An impressive array of non-alcoholic drinks, juices and soft drinks fill the cooler and there are five kinds of homemade lassi available, including an enlightened soy mango one for those with a dairy intolerance. There is also a great selection of herbal teas all priced at £ 1.05. They don’t serve alcohol but you can bring your own.
The brightly coloured and somewhat ramshackle decor is based around a theme of healthy eating. Signs line the walls informing you about benefits of vegetarian food and healthy eating, full of statistics and interesting and amusing facts. Posters listing images of British prime ministers and telling you about the ‘best fertility foods for him and her’ are a couple more wacky examples. From the ceilings hang wonderfully tacky neon-lit chandeliers.
