The more social end of Old Street towards Shoreditch doesn’t offer much in terms of interesting eating or drinking venues, but On The Bab is one of my favourite spots.
Promoted as a Korean street food restaurant, On The Bab serves an array of buns, rice and noodle dishes. The hot pork is a personal favourite, in any of its forms; the hot chicken noodle soup is also wonderful. Fried Kimchi pancakes are, in my humble opinion, the best starter on the menu. Wash them down with an ‘aloe punch’ and you’ll be more than satisfied.
Its tiny interior means that queues can often build up outside, resulting in punters peering through the windows while you get your lips around their steamy buns and sticky meat. Don’t let that put you off, though. It’s worth the wait. Takeaway is also available if you feel like something a bit nicer than Perfect Fried Chicken!
