Ramen is the new burrito. Burrito places might have been popping up all over London last year, but this year Ramen is king. A trend for this Japanese specialty has been big in Central London this year and Londoners seem to have an insatiable appetite for the noodle soup which comes in countless varieties.
My favourite place to slurp up this delight is Shoryu, just off Piccadilly Circus in Soho. There are 15 varieties of the incredibly tasty Ramen Tonkotsu soup on the menu. Most soups come in a rich tonkotsu pork broth with bbq pork, nitamago egg, kikurage mushrooms, bean sprouts, spring onion, sesame, ginger, nori & mayu (caramelised black garlic oil). But there are veggie options too. I highly recommend the Dracula Tonkotsu with has deep roasted tones from caramelised black garlic mayu, balsamic vinegar and garlic chips. Delicious.
There is often a queue but there is also a pretty high turnover rate so I would stick it out. It’s worth the wait!
