Tango @ Spitalfields has become a London tradition every summer. It brings both tango newbies and aficionados together to enjoy this tantalising dance in an ‘al fresco’ setting. The usual format of beginners’ lessons for the first half hour followed by a milonga applies. No booking is required for the lessons.

This social dancing event takes place under the canopy at Bishops Square of Spitalfields Market. As the dance area is covered, there is no need to worry in case of ‘occasional’ rains.

The dates for 2013 have just been announced and these are:

Thursday evenings – 06 June, 25 July, 29 August, 26 September

Sunday afternoons – 30 June, 21 July, 08 September

Everyone is welcome to dance, to learn or to merely spectate. Refreshments are available from the many shops around Spitalfields Market or you can bring your own bottle or two.

London’s West End is home to some of the world’s most loved theatrical productions. It is one of the reasons why people visit the British capital. But for visitors and locals alike, it could be a daunting task to pick one to watch. This is why the Westminster City Council organises West End Live to showcase the many (if not all) West End shows that are currently running.

West End Live provides the opportunity for audiences to get a taste of these productions. This 2-day event showcases select performances from different productions including long-running shows Lion King, Billy Elliot and Les Miserables. It also features exhibits from various attractions in London.

Trafalgar Square will host the stage for the 2013 West End Live on 22-23 June. Entry is free as usual so mark your diaries now. See you there, come rain or shine!

Looking like a casual pub, every first Friday of the month, the dining room of the White Swan, becomes a fine food paradise. Each month they offer carefully picked combinations of regional wines, from well known wineries from good classics as Loire valleys or Beaujolais, to new discoveries such as New Zealand, matched with 5 different courses brings a 4 hour delightful touch after a busy week.

Brazilian sommelier Paulo takes wanna-be connoisseurs through the secrets of matching food and wine in an everyday language, witty manner and a little joke. Meanwhile, the Tasmanian head chef ensures that the most uncommon compositions of all 5 courses would perfectly match selected wines, looking rather like a piece of art and be a revelation in every guest’s mouth.

Combining the most diverse ingredients, for a second sounded like a challenge for the stomach, yet I left the building perfectly satisfied and ready for a great weekend. The hidden yet popular dining room in the heart of the City, brings a smart casual topic forward, which is great to impress a beloved one, carry a business dinner or (my case) catch up with a friend I have not seen for far too long.

It is a proof how food, wine and a little time and knowledge can turn busy after office hours into a special experience. Thus, it is my pleasure to indulge myself with a 4 hour meal in the place perfectly representing the City- an opportunity, class and diversity.

Somerset house

If you are a real modern explorer looking for a place where fashion meets art, photography and skating, this venue is a must.

Every year, depending on the season Somerset house provides Londoners and city guests with opportunities to see the best in fashion in London Fashion Week, masters of photography at Sony Awards, skate with a cup of mulled wine and shop at Tiffany’s Christmas ice rink and shops or celebrate the greatest event in 4 years- The Olympics.

The contemporary gallery also holds London dungeon exhibitions, that takes you through the history of London and the city’s recent emergence. Also, the greatest post modern artists are exhibited here as well as mixed up with the masterpieces of the classics. This year, Somerset house is also chosen as a country house for the host of summer Olympics 2016, so it is definitely a place where la fiesta is held!

There are a million and one galleries in London, and I have no doubt there are even more reasons to see them all, yet, if you only got a day/afternoon in the city of the rities and find yourself in Aldwych, it will be more than a shame to miss on Somerset house no matter the season!
