This is my absolute favourite spot to have cocktails, possibly more than anywhere in the world! This fantastic old-world cocktail bar resides within the Georgian Zetter Townhouse hotel, though it doesn’t feel anything like a ‘hotel lounge’. Instead, you are greeted with rich red patterned walls, heavy curtains and plush armchairs and sofas. The décor consists of still life paintings and portraits in gold frames along with taxidermy creatures such as a stuffed cat.
The cocktail list changes all the time and the waiters are extremely knowledgeable about the concoctions. There is charming table service and each waiter has created their own drink on the menu. These are professional, carefully crafted creations. Not the overly sweet drinks most people associate with cocktails.
Last time I tried ‘Hidalgo’s Cobbler’, a twist on the traditional Sherry Cobbler with Pedro Ximenez cordial and Cognac. So good I had to have two! If you don’t like any of the house cocktails you can ask for your own cocktail based on what you like.
You can order a cheese board, sharing platters or snacks to accompany your drink, all the while pretending you belong in an time long gone. This place is popular so booking is highly recommended.
