Grand Central Market underwent a major face lift in recent years and next to the traditional food vendors you can now find lots of international cuisine, juiceries, great coffee, traditional made ice cream and local breweries, all under one roof.
GCM is a very authentic landmark of historic Downtown. Grand Central Market has been around since 1917 and is located between Broadway and Hill Street, with entrances to both sides. Back in the days the Angelenos rode the Angels Flight Railway (which is located across from GCM on Hill Street) down from Bunker Hill, for their open-air grocery shopping.
My favorites are the Tostaderia, a Mexican Cevichería, serving great seafood in crunchy tostadas, both traditional and modern creations. Also great is Bombo, serving California Cuisine, seafood focused dishes and homemade lemonades. McConnell’s Fine Ice Cream is the hot spot for irresistible, traditional gourmet American ice cream. You can even find Berlin Currywurst, authentic straight from Berlin to DTLA. Golden Road Brewing is a LA based brewery serving about 20 beers on tap at their tasting bar. Top it all off with some of the best coffee in town, they even serve their own macademia and almond milk, which makes for a very special cappuccino.
