My first exposure to vegan cuisine was during my college years at Native Foods Cafe in Westwood. It quickly became a go to place for me due to the healthy, GMO free, organic, fresh food offerings.
Everything at Native Foods is made from scratch; this includes their sauces, drinks, and desserts. They also make seasonal dishes and drinks, use organic, non GMO soybeans and corn, and organic ingredients whenever possible. I frequently try new items and have yet to be disappointed. Bonuses: they have a kids meal, you can build your own burger, and they serve local beer and regional wine.
Native Foods Cafes is eco-friendly, LEED certified, and uses recyclable and bio-degradable items. Active in the community, they have partnerships with Mercy for Animals (preventing cruelty to farm animals), The Surfrider Foundation (protecting oceans and beaches), and Farm Sanctuary (protecting, rescuing, and adopting farm animals). Eat there on “Native Pals Day” (occurs once a month) and a portion of the proceeds goes to the featured group– you’ll also receive a free dessert for certain purchases.
The way I see it is, if you’re going to spend $10 on a meal, might as well make it a healthy one. And if you can support animals and the planet while you’re at it…even better!
