Runyon Canyon is a popular hiking spot in the Hollywood Hills, located just north of Hollywood Boulevard and La Brea Avenues. It’s a very trendy place to come hike with your dog, take yoga classes, and, if you’re lucky, spot celebrities!
The hiking park has easy, medium, and much more difficult trails depending on how adventurous you’re feeling. The main path is a paved road that climbs gradually up the mountain. The medium route is partially on the paved road, but also involves a steeper, dirt path that has some wooden stairs built into the side of the mountain. The more difficult paths are much steeper and you climb along rocks and less marked paths.
Regardless of what skill level you are and which route you pick, there are gorgeous views of the skyline on all the paths. You can see the rise of buildings in the Downtown and Culver City areas, and if it’s a clear day, you can see all the way to the Pacific Ocean.
The hiking area is a very popular dog park, so you’ll see lots of owners and their dogs, both big and small, many of whom let their dogs run around off leash, so be aware if you aren’t a dog lover.
The only downside is this trail can be very crowded on the weekends. I’d recommend going in the middle of the day on a weekday if you can, that way you avoid the normal rush!
