Hollywood. The city of dreams, where people from all over the world come to pursue their passions. One key location to acquire showbiz information is the Samuel French Bookshop. It offers books, pamphlets, and media on all aspects of the entertainment industry, including: film, theatre, musicals, fashion, and make-up.
Originally based in New York City, this 180+ year-old company first opened in Downtown L.A. in 1929, then settled in its current Sunset location in 1947.
With so many bookstores closing (including Samuel French’s Valley location in 2012), this shop is a gem in an otherwise bustling city. I love having a quiet location to take a break, pick up a book, and learn something new.
Catch actors, writers, directors, and producers browsing the aisles; relax in the reading room; peruse books about Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor; or, perhaps purchase a moleskin journal to keep a record of your travels. Take a gander and maybe you’ll even spot a star – one yelp reviewer saw Kevin Spacey!
