Sushi is one of those foods you don’t want to be cheap about. And there’s plenty of fancy and expensive, incredibly tasty sushi out there, especially in Los Angeles. But sometimes, you just want some sushi, without the crazy price tag. The answer to that need? Sushi Stop.
Sushi stop is fantastic because it’s relatively fresh and still tasty, without the ridiculously expensive bill. Sure, it’s not the best spicy tuna I’ve ever had in my life, but for $ 2.75 a roll – yes, every roll is $ 2.75 – it’s the best dang spicy tuna you’ll get in that price range.
Sushi Stop has become a small chain, so they have a few spread out throughout Los Angeles. I’ve had my best experiences at the Sawtelle location in West LA, so I’d recommend that one for consistency.
They have sashimi and a pretty wide variety of rolls, plus several bowls and appetizer options.
Some of my go-to items include the cucumber salad, popcorn shrimp roll, unagi (freshwater eel), baked whitefish roll, and crunchy california roll.
Be prepared if you go during traditional lunch or dinner time, you’ll probably have to wait: Sushi Stop is notorious, and not a well kept secret.
If you do have to wait for a table, wander through some of the cute Japanese stores in the strip malls next door – they have some adorable finds. There are also some delicious boba places in the area as well – CoCo is my favorite!
