Located on the ground floor of the Westside Pavilion Landmark Theater, the Westside Tavern is one of the hidden jewels of the Pico-Westwood/Rancho Park neighborhood that is great for pre-theater dining but also for regular lunch and dinner and with a lively bar scene.
Being on the ground floor of the Landmark Theater (reviewed here as well), it is a very convenient location for pre-theater dining. And you will often find fast and highly attentive service to ensure that you make it to your show on time.
Westside Tavern is an American gastropub with a California twist and an emphasis on fresh, high quality, organic ingredients. The portions are large but not overwhelming.
For the appetizers, I highly recommend the fritto misto mare of fried shrimp and calamari (fresh, flavorful, un-greasy, and perfectly crispy), the chicken liver mousse (which comes in a glass jar with a side of ciabatta toast points) and the burrata caprese salad. A selection of flatbreads are great for sharing too with large parties.
The main courses run the gambit from the classic cheeseburger (made with grass-fed beef) and French fries (perfectly crisp) to grilled fishes and meats. All the dishes are flavorful and completed with unique flavor combinations.
For those who like dessert, Westside Tavern will not disappoint. Dessert dishes include European influenced powdered sugar beignets, warm sticky toffee cake, and afogato as well as American classics the hot fudge sundae and pumpkin bread pudding.
Westside Tavern is a gastropub I highly recommend.
